Course Overview
This course takes a focused look at the final sections of a heavy civil plan set: striping plans, traffic signals, storm water pollution prevention, construction sequencing, the traffic control plan, and the standards and details that govern how a completed roadway is marked, signed, and handed over. Building on the plan reading and field operations skills developed in Parts 1 through 3, this course equips professionals with the ability to read the documents that govern the visible surface of the roadway and understand how construction is safely sequenced from mobilization through project closeout. Using the Everhart Road reconstruction project in Corpus Christi, Texas, as a real-world case study, participants will learn to interpret pavement marking call outs, read traffic signal and traffic control plans, navigate construction sequencing phases, and understand how city and state standards govern every stripe, arrow, and stop bar on a finished city street. Taught from the perspective of an experienced survey manager, this course bridges classroom learning and real-world field conditions.

Read traffic signal plans, including pole locations, signal head configurations, and conduit run summaries.

Interpret traffic control advance warning signage, including sign call outs, spacing, and section-specific abbreviations.
Navigate a construction sequencing layout, identifying phases, sub-phases, and the general notes governing them.
Read a traffic control plan sheet, identifying lane closures, detours, and channelization devices for a given phase.
Apply standards and details sheets to confirm dimensions and placement requirements referenced elsewhere in the plan set.
